Match Rules

Freestyle shooters follow Morro Bay Airgunners Freestyle rules (rule chart) for Piston and Pre-charge classes. For all others, AAFTA rules and classes apply.

Equipment inspection and FPE testing may be done at the Match Director's discretion. In any matters arising and not covered by these rules, the Match Director’s decision will be final.

Targets will be checked each morning before the match with a WFTF calibrated target tester.

Target Malfunction Procedures:
If a reset string breaks, snags, or a target cannot be reset, call a marshal to repair it.
Shooters may protest targets if they are certain that a target failed to fall with a good hit.

The standard procedure is as follows:
Group protest:
1. If three shooters in a row confer that they all hit the target and it failed to fall, protest action may be taken.
2. Before anyone else shoots the target, a course marshal will be called to shoot the target with a a WFTF calibrated target tester, to check for proper function.
3. If the target does not fall from a test impact, the marshall will repair or replace with a comparable target and retest to satisfaction. The three shooters in question will reshoot the target.

An individual shooter may also lodge a protest if they are certain that a target failed to fall with a good hit. The individual procedure is as follows:
Individual protest:
1. Immediately after finishing shooting a lane, the shooter must remain in place and protest if they feel that a target was malfunctioning.
2. Before proceeding, the other squad member calls a marshal who will shoot the target with a a WFTF calibrated target tester, to check for proper function. The protestor may accompany the marshal during the test.
3. If the target does not fall from a test impact, the marshall will repair or replace with a comparable target and retest to satisfaction. Only the shooter in the box that protested may reshoot the target.
4. If the target falls from the initial test impact, the competitor's score is reduced by an additional penalty point for delay of game, and they do not get to reshoot the target.
5. Each competitor is allowed an unlimited number of individual protests as long as each protested target proves faulty. However, the competitor is only allowed one false alarm. After which, that competitor's protest privilege is suspended for the day.
